Role Description

The AT Trainer is a motivated, organized, enthusiastic Assistive Technology Specialist (ATS). The ATS will be responsible for providing direct AT support services. Services include assessment, equipment recommendation, configuration of hardware and software, training and technical support (in-person and remote), primarily serving persons who are both visually impaired and hard of hearing located in the DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia areas. Work will be performed both independently and as a member of the AT Services team.


  • Perform assessments with DeafBlind consumers to determine current AT skill level and technologies and training needed to facilitate digital communication goals.
  • Document assessments results and recommendations for specific equipment and training in a program specific database, to established guidelines.
  • Order recommended equipment.
  • Set-up, install, configure equipment to specific needs.
  • Troubleshoot and train on a variety of AT and telecommunications products including screen readers, screen magnification and other technologies on PCs, Macs and smart devices
  • Create training outlines and accessible reference materials.
  • Document training and all consumer contacts in a program specific database.


  • Demonstrated professional experience training persons of all technical skill levels who have significant vision and hearing challenges
  • Knowledge of various AT software used by persons with significant vision and hearing challenges is required
  • Experience training, installing, configuring and troubleshooting in a variety of computing environments
  • Ability to learn speech output, screen magnification and other technologies for use on PCs, Macs, mobile devices and telecommunications equipment
  • Ability to develop training outlines and accessible reference materials
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to travel independently in the Virginia and Maryland
  • Strong written communication skills
